Talecris Biotherapeutics is the 2010 recipient of the Johnston Community College Business and Industry Partner of the Year award.
The award was presented Feb. 10 at the Breakfast before Business event, which was hosted by the Johnston Community College Foundation, the Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce, and the JCC Economic and Workforce Development department. The event was sponsored by BB&T, First Citizens Bank, Four Oaks Bank, and KS Bank.
Talecris Biotherapeutics received the award based on the company's philanthropy to education and its support of customized training programs at the College. Since 2008, Talecris Biotherapeutics has contributed or pledged more than $150,000 in monetary support for facilities, business and industry programming, and student scholarships at JCC. The company has also donated nearly $40,000 in equipment and supplies for training opportunities at the Workforce Development Center in Clayton. Talecris Biotherapeutics also hires many of the College's graduates and utilizes JCC for training opportunities during maintenance periods when the manufacturing plant is closed for production.
"We're honored to have received the Business and Industry Partner Award from Johnston Community College," said Mary Kuhn, Executive Vice President of Operations at Talecris Biotherapeutics. "The award represents our ongoing commitment to sustain and promote the educational, economic and career development growth of residents in Johnston County."
JCC President David Johnson thanked Talecris Biotherapeutics for its commitment to education and recognized the corporation's critical role in the College's ability to develop cutting-edge training programs that serve the industry's needs.
"JCC is extremely proud of our longstanding partnership with Talecris Biotherapeutics," Johnson said. "We are most grateful for their monetary support and equipment donations, but we also value their input and guidance on developing customized training programs that help the College certify the best skilled workers for the biopharmaceutical career field."
