Presented by the Clayton Historical Association

CLAYTON, NC- WRAL-TV news anchor Bill Leslie will share memories of his father, William, with stories, artwork and song in a cultural event, Tar Heel Tales and Tunes, on Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at The Clayton Center located at 111 East 2nd Street. The event is presented by the Clayton Historical Association.

Leslie, a native of Morganton, is a talented storyteller and world-renowned musician, praised by famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma as "one of the greats in modern Celtic music." The concert will include selections from Leslie's nearly completed album titled "Blue Ridge Reunion" – a CD and companion book project available this fall. For this project, Leslie revisited his late father's favorite mountain vista that inspired his father's watercolors. He drew musical inspiration from these same vistas for his new songs.
The companion book will feature the late William Leslie's Blue Ridge paintings, along with his son's narratives. During the event in Clayton, Leslie will have a slide show featuring his father's artwork accompanied by new music. He will also tell stories and share memories of his father, many of them recurring as he put this project together.

Porter Casey, president of the Clayton Historical Association, said, "We chose Bill Leslie because he is a well-known musician as well as a wonderful storyteller. His roots in North Carolina run deep, and he has a great love for history, which he inherited from his father. "Through Bill's storytelling accounts of his own childhood and growing up in North Carolina, the Clayton Historical Association hopes it will inspire others to share their own stories. The proceeds from this event will be allocated to a fund for a future Clayton History Museum, one of the CHA's long-term goals. We hope the Clayton community enjoys a wonderful Sunday afternoon in historic downtown Clayton with Bill Leslie."

Tickets for this event are $15 (General Admission), $10 (CHA members), and $8 (Children under 12) and are available at the Clayton Center box office at (919) 553-1737, online at www.theclaytoncenter.org , or by contacting the Clayton Historical Association at claytonNChistory@gmail.com

Proceeds from this event go to the Clayton Historical Association (CHA). The mission of the CHA is to preserve and share the history of Clayton and to recognize and preserve the historic properties of Clayton. The Clayton Historical Association is funded in part by the Town of Clayton Cultural Arts Fund.

On My Honor, I Will

Aug. 29, 2010 - (By: Gary Tomlinson) "Learning from the school of hard knocks can be very informing, but often the tuition is too high! We should learn from other people's experiences." The purpose of this column is to share great business wisdom from the experiences of authors like Jim Collins, Michael Gerber, Gary Harpst, Michael LeBoeuf, Ron Willingham, Randy Pennington and others. Because when you combine great business education with your own business experiences the outcome you'll receive is far greater than the sum of its parts.

The wisdom of Randy Pennington's new book; "On My Honor, I Will; The Journey to Integrity-Driven Leadership" has been chosen to share with you this week. The seed for this book began with five words: "He's a REAL BOY SCOUT." Those words were spoken to Randy Pennington by his client who used them to describe his boss. They were not meant as a compliment. His client's contention that honor and integrity are not consistent with long-term success concerned Randy then and continues to do so today. It was the catalyst that caused him to write this book.

Unfortunately his client's belief is shared by many others today.   More »
