Wake Forest, NC – July 12, 2018: Owner of Wake Forest-based Pettyjohn’s Cleaning and Restoration, Robert Pettyjohn is the first person in North Carolina to earn a global certification in the rug cleaning and restoration industry.
Only 74 individuals have received the Certified Rug Specialist (CRS) designation from the Association of Rug Care Specialists based in Oregon.
The CRS program is an advanced year-long process that covers cleaning chemistry, intensive structural analysis of more than 200 hand and machine-made rugs, and best-practice cleaning processes, as they relate to different types of rugs.
The training culminated with a written and hands-on identification test. After passing both tests and presenting an exhaustive research project chronicling the role geography played in the history of rug production, Pettyjohn was presented the certification at the Association of Rug Care Specialists’ 2018 conference in Seattle.
“I’ve been working in the rug and carpet cleaning industry since 1989 and this certification enables Pettyjohn’s to increase our appreciation of the time artisans spent creating these investment textiles, and to serve our precious customers better by understanding the cleaning considerations unique to each rug,” said Pettyjohn. “It allows me to see rugs differently than most rug cleaners and have a broader perspective of the rug cleaning industry.”
Robert’s pursuit of rug knowledge has taken him to major rug producing areas of Iran, Turkey and Jordan.
Pettyjohn’s is a family-owned company that provides rug, carpet, upholstery, tile and grout cleaning, as well as water damage restoration, mold remediation, odor removal and crawlspace solutions. It is the only company east of the Mississippi River to use twice-filtered, naturally softened rainwater when cleaning rugs.
